I’m so excited to share with you this month’s ruler of the month quilt! The Patriot Mini Quilt is a quilt inspired by the American Flag. This mini quilt makes a great wall hanging, but is also perfectly sized to hang on your door for a patriotic holiday (or anytime, really)! And as a mini quilt, it comes together wonderfully fast!
I planned this quilt out over a month ago. And the world has changed a lot since then. With so many of us becoming aware (or more aware) of the systemic racism that is deeply rooted in this country, and the peaceful protests that have been overshadowed by the violence of looting and rioting, I wondered if this was still the right time to share a quilt pattern with roots in the US flag, with the word patriot in its name. But after careful consideration, I think that now is even more appropriate than I could have imagined when I designed the quilt. We, as a nation, are rediscovering where our roots come from, and examining our patriotism. In these few short weeks we have had an awakening. And it is our responsibility to stay awake.
This pattern uses the Creative Grids Strippy Stars Ruler. I encourage you to purchase your ruler and supplies at your local quilt shop. However, if you need to purchase online, here are affiliate links which give me a small commission when you buy the Strippy Stars Ruler at Fat Quarter Shop or the Strippy Stars Ruler on Amazon.
And, I’ve made a video showing you how easy it is to use the Strippy Stars Ruler – this may be my favorite of the rulers so far! These nine-patch stars come together so easily!
I hope you enjoy the pattern! If you make it, please share your finished version with me on Instagram and Facebook!
