Valentine’s Day XOXO Tea Lights

I love Valentine’s Day! Even if you don’t have a sweetheart to share it with, it is a day filled with yummy candy, pretty decorations, and beautiful smelling flowers. What’s not to love about that?

If you do have someone special to share the day with, it is a day where we go out of our way to let that person know that they are special. Which is pretty awesome.

When I saw this box of “table scatter” in the Dollar section at Target, I just knew I needed to make something out of the cute little Xs and Os. All I needed was some battery-operated tea lights, and some hot glue to get a little romantic ambiance going! They are quick and easy to put together, depending on how tall you’d like to make yours.

I started off with a package of “flameless” tea candles (also from Target), and the “table scatter.”
After warming up my hot glue gun, I glued an X directly to the base of the tea light.
I continued adding pieces all the way around, alternating Xs and Os and gluing them directly to the white base. When I got most of the way around, I checked my spacing, and added a teensy bit more space between the letters so there wouldn’t be a large gap when I got all the way around.
Then I started the second tier. I glued Os on top of Xs, and vice versa. I just used a dab of hot glue on the bottom of each new letter to secure it to the piece below it. The letters are not glued to the letters on either side, just the one below. I used enough glue to make it secure, but no so much that it globbed all over the place.
It looked cute with two tiers, but I went for a 3rd, and on another candle, added 4 tiers. That was tall enough for me.
When they were all done, I flipped on the switch, and watched them glow! It turns out that they’re perfect for that special someone in my life… though my husband isn’t a fan of dust catchers decorative objects… my son loves them!

After finishing up these tea lights, I came up with another fun project that uses Xs and Os… but you’ll have to come back next week to see that one!

  3. This is such a cute project and there are not nearly enough decorations out there for Valentine’s Day, so it’s great that you made your own. Honestly, if I saw a box of “table scatter” I would be wondering what I was possibly supposed to use it for. I never would have thought of this.

  4. Those are adorable and so simple to make too. What a GREAT idea! I’m going to pin this to pinterest =)
