This free quilt block is a Movie Director’s Chair. I remember seeing these when I was younger, and I wanted a Director’s Chair in my room, with my name on the back. I had no aspirations to be in the movies, or to direct movies, but I thought the chair design was iconic, and it still is.
This block is quick to make, as you follow the step-by-step instructions for the cross-legged bottom. I worked through several different ways to make this design, and I found this method to be the most fabric-sparing. It is a little tedious, but it isn’t difficult. And you only need to make one. Once you’ve stitched up the legs on this Director’s Chair, making the rest of the block is very quick.
And, the back of the chair is a big piece of fabric, making it perfect for customizing the block! It finishes at 3″ x 8″, so you can pick a fun focus fabric for your custom director’s chair quilt block, or you can stitch on a name! So many fun ways to make the quilt block your own!
