Audio Book Quilt Block

This month’s free quilt block is the Audio Book Quilt Block. The theme for this month is “books,” so I thought this block would be perfect. Most of the books I read nowadays are through Audiobooks. As a child I loved reading, and while I still do, I just don’t have the time to read books on my own the way I used to. I know that some folks don’t consider listening to an audiobook to be the equivalent of reading a book… but I think those folks are wrong. You don’t have to agree with me, though!

There are so many great ways to access audiobooks. You can use Libby, Audible, or even a podcast app like Spotify. There are so many ways to enjoy your favorite books! I love the extra layer that voice actors add to a book. They change their accents or tone of voice to go with the character they’re reading. And without the fabulous voice actors reading the books, I probably wouldn’t know how to pronounce the names of some of my favorite fantasy book characters (I’m specifically thinking of Hermione… but there are so many others)!

Listening to an audio book also takes me back to my childhood. My dad used to tuck me in at night and read me a bedtime story. Listening to an audiobook is my “adult” way of getting a bedtime story. Too bad the audio book doesn’t have a tuck-in feature!

How to use this Audio Book Quilt Block

This block could also be used as a Podcast Quilt Block or Music Streaming Quilt Block. You can use any fussy-cut fabric to make the 4″ finished square at the top of the phone screen. Use it to represent your favorite book, Podcast, song, album, or artist. There are so many great fabrics you can use! You can make a whole quilt to represent all the Audiobooks you’ve listened to this year. You could use blocks representing your favorite podcasts. You could even make blocks that represent all the songs on an album, or your favorite songs from a specific artist. If you’re really into music, you could use this quilt block as a visual version of a “playlist” – for those of us who were born in a year that starts with 19, that would be a digital version of a mix tape!
