Sometimes, all we need is a fun little project… and sometimes all we need is a little pocket to hold business cards, or our ID and credit card for a night out, or a couple little photos. So, I came up with this quick little business card holder… that would also work great as a gift card holder for holiday gifts!
These are pretty quick to make, so consider cutting out several at once, out of cute holiday fabrics, birthday fabrics, and other fun fabrics, and you’ll have a “homemade gift” just waiting for a gift card! In a pinch, you could fold up some cash and put it in there instead! : )
Start by cutting fabric and interfacing. 2 pieces of fabric 4.25 x 5.25″, for the inside and outside, 2 pieces of fabric 4.25 x 4″ for the pockets, and 3 pieces of interfacing – one 3.75 x 4.75″ for the main body, and two 3.75 x 1.75″ for the pockets.
Iron the large piece of interfacing onto the wrong side of one of the large rectangles, leaving 1/4″ around the edge. Iron the two small pieces each onto one half of the smaller fabric rectangles. You can then iron these rectangles in half.
Layer the pieces, with the large pieces right sides together, and the small folded pieces on either end, like this:
Stitch 1/8″ seam around all sides, leaving an opening for tuning. Clip the corners as close as you can.
Flip the entire thing right side out. Use a chopstick to push the corners out. Poking the chopstick into the pockets works really well.
Fold in the raw edge from turning, and top stitch around all sides, as close to the edge as you dare…
Tuck something fun in the pocket, and you’re all set!
