Pocket Card - Final Pocket Week Preview Project

Pocket Week is starting NEXT WEEK! I’m so super excited! This is the last of my preview posts, giving you an idea of what we’ve got in store for you.

I know the last two preview posts have been sewing-related, so this one is specifically not. Pockets can be used just about anywhere. Like when making cards. So here it is – the Pocket Card! : )

What you need:
– Cardstock or pre-folded plain white card
– Cream colored cardstock
– Patterned Scrapbook Paper
– Glue or other adhesive
– Scrapbook Paper
– Circle Punch (or some creativity)
– Distress Inks
– Ribbon
– Embellishments

Start by cutting the folded card square – mine is 5×5″

Next, cut your notch through both layers, on the opposite side of the fold. If you have a circle punch, great! If not (like me), you can trace something round to use as a circle. Or, you could ~~go the lazy route~~ use your creativity, and pull out a giant heart shaped punch:

Put a small mark in the center of the card edge opposite the fold of the card. Use this notch to line up the card in the punch, and make your punch.

Trace the outline of your punched card onto scrapbook paper, cutting inside the lines by 1/4 to 1/8 inch, depending on how you want your card to look.

Cut the cream-colored cardstock that is going to go inside the card pocket 1/2 inch smaller than the size of the pocket itself. Place inside the opened pocket, and line the edges with adhesive. Close to seal. Make sure the cream colored insert moves in and out freely.

Add ribbon and embellishments. I edged my papers with the Distress Ink. The lace was also too white, so I rubbed on distress ink, spritzed some water, rubbed the ink in, and then ironed to dry it quickly. Then it is all done! Super Easy!

There are other ways to do a pocket card. Here is one with the notches on the top instead of the side, and several notches instead of one.

You could also use a small punch to make a hole in the inner card where it peeks through, and tie some cute ribbon on, which would also make the card easy to pull out.
