Strategically Placed Paper Piecing

At Quiltique, we asked staff and teachers to “Bling a Bra.” These bras were auctioned off on Saturday with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen foundation. We got the idea for this embellished lingerie from the Bernina Blog, where they challenged their readers to promote awareness and celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with this promotion.

I was excited to participate, with a mom that is an 8-year survivor, and a friend who is a “survivor in training” (she just finished surgery, and will be starting radiation soon), this is a cause that is important to me personally.

I started off my bra by making two paper-pieced blocks using Carol Doak‘s free Heart with a Ribbon Pattern (click the link then scroll down to find the pattern).

I added border fabric, and hand-stitched them to a bra. I switched out the straps, and added some pearl beading.

The auction was on Saturday, and on Sunday Carol Doak herself was guest teaching at the shop! She graciously offered to model the bra:

Raising money for a great cause brings a smile to my face too Carol! : )

Always,

I think you might give Victoria’s Secret a run for their money with this one! 😉

That is really amazing, Carolina! This made me think of someone I know who is fighting with breast cancer too. Such a great project..!
