The Gift-Bag-along!

Created On: October 26, 2022  |  Updated: October 26, 2022  |   8 Comments

Make gift bags throughout November with the Gift-Bag-along! This way, you’ll be ready for the Holidays with beautiful fabric gift bags!

Fabric gift bags are fabulous for a number of reasons – first, they’re beautiful! You get to use your favorite fabrics to make the bags, which makes them a gift in themselves! Second, they create less waste! If a fabric gift bag gets crumpled, a little starch and a hot iron are all that is needed to make it like new again! And thirdly (and possibly my favorite), they become a tradition and a memory in the family. As the fabric gift bags get used year after year, people remember what was given in the bag the year before. The bags have the “echos” of gifts and holidays past.

Is there a schedule?

You can make any gift bag you like for the gift-bag-along. I’ll be making four different gift bags, one each week.

Week 1: Giant “Santa Sack” style bag (free pattern – check back for details)
Week 2: Fabric Gift Bags (get the Gift Bag pattern in digital here or printed copy here)
Week 3: Single Serving Bottle Gift Bag (free pattern – check back for details)
Week 4: Wine Bag (get the Wine bag pattern in digital here or printed copy here)

All of these patterns do use the Boxed Bag Template, so if you don’t have yours yet, you can order the Boxed Bag Template here. If you’re new to the Boxed Bag Template, learn all about the Boxed Bag Template here.

I’m running this sewalong over on Instagram, and there will be prizes! Each Monday, I’ll pick a winner at random from those who have shared a picture of their finished gift bag on Instagram with the hashtag #giftbagalong2022. And the entries are cumulative! If you upload a new bag each week, you’ll have 4 entries by the end of the month! And you can absolutely upload more than one finished bag – let’s all be inspired by so many gift bags!

What are the prizes?

Each week, I’ll be giving away a bag making prize pack! This will include three fat quarters, four zippers, a cut of canvas, two postcard patterns, and a pack of fusible fleece. That’s a prize pack worth over $45! And, on the final week I’ll be giving away a bag making prize pack PLUS an Oliso Mini! I will pay shipping anywhere in the world, if any duty is owed, that will be the responsibility of the recipient.

How do I join in?

You can start now by downloading one of the two gift-bag-along images, and posting them to your Instagram with the hashtag #GiftBagAlong2022. This will get you a bonus entry!

Then make sure you’re ready to join in! You’ll want to order your Boxed Bag Template if you don’t already have one, and any patterns you need. You can make any gift bag (or bags) you want throughout November to qualify – if you’d like to start with the Santa Sack, you’ll need 1 yard of wide fabric (like canvas, denim, or wide-back) or two yards of your favorite quilting cotton.

Starting November 1st, post your gift bag photos to Instagram using the hashtag #GiftBagAlong2022, and make sure you’re following me (@craftmoore)!

I can’t wait to see all your fabric gift bags, and send out some prizes!

What a fun idea. I don’t know how to have my own Instagram so don’t have one. Can I still play? TIA
I took a picture of your two pretty bags but don’t know how to post them either. Sorry, still have much to learn.

I’m tracking everything on instagram, so you are still welcome to join in by getting the two new free patterns and making bags, but I won’t have a mechanism to include you in the prizes…
