Pocket Week – Add a Simple Pocket

Created On: August 2, 2010  |  Updated: August 2, 2010  |   1 Comment

After finishing up LM’s shorts to go with his cousin R’s dress, I was all set to make a shirt to go with the shorts… but it seemed like so much work! I was going to make a navy blue t-shirt, and then saw a navy polo for $3 at the store. **SCORE!**

But, it had a really ugly patch on the front. I decided to remove the patch, and cover the blemish left behind from the removal with a cute pocket from a scrap of fabric left over from making the shorts.

I started by taking off the patch.

I then measured the area the patch had covered, and drew my pocket shape with a quilting pen. I then cut out the pocket shape – I doubled up the fabric, cutting 2 layers.

Putting right sides together, I sewed all around the pocket, leaving a hole for turning.

After clipping the corners, I turned and pressed. I held the pocket up against the shirt to make sure it would cover the blemish (it did, just barely), then sewed a double-layer of stitching across the top for a “finished look.”

After pinning the shirt in place, I sewed all the way around (but leaving the top open), and I was done!

The shirt took about 20 minutes – 10 of which were spent picking off the patch! And here are the cousins at the party in their matching outfits!

Make sure you come back at noon PST for another awesome guest post (didn’t Christina’s Samosas from yesterday look super yummy!?). At noon today, Laurie is stopping by for a fun pocket tutorial. Laurie is also known as “MomChops” to those of us who are stalkers readers of Lolly Chops’s fantastic blog!

And did you check out JD Lady’s awesome Etsy shop? I’m so sad I can’t win prizes on my own blog! Especially because today’s giveaway is sponsored by Country at Heart Gifts. My legs need to have a date with that wonderful Goat’s Milk Lotion… living in Vegas, great lotion is a must!
