Simple Yo-yo Headband – Headband Week

Created On: February 29, 2012  |  Updated: February 29, 2012  |   Leave a comment

Yet another fun headband for Headband Week! On Monday, I shared a headband that used nearly 30 tiny yo-yos. But, a headband doesn’t have to be covered in yo-yos to take advantage of the cuteness they can add to a project. This headband has 3 strategically-cut yo-yos, with button centers. All on a simple headband.

To make this headband, I used the “Lime Fizzy Bubbles” fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics “Sugar” line, a simple wide headband, some buttons, thread, and ModPodge.

I was able to find a light-colored headband at the dollar store to use as my base.
Using regular ModPodge, I coated the outside of the headband in preparation for the fabric, which I had cut several inches larger than the headband.
After smoothing the fabric over the top of the headband, I trimmed the fabric around the headband. Using more ModPodge, I tucked in the extra fabric neatly along all the sides.
After getting all the fabric tucked and smoothed, I glued on two pieces of contrasting ribbon using hot glue.
The fabric I chose had these great medallions in it. I cut around several, and turned them into fun little yo-yos. If you want better instructions on how to stitch up a yo-yo, check out this yo yo tutorial.
I stitched buttons over the holes, and then glued them in place over the ribbon.

Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to check out the other fun headbands I’ve made as part of Headband Week – the Yo-yo headband and the No-sew Fabric Feather Headband. I’ve got one more fun headband tutorial to post tomorrow!

Always,
