Quick Purse Made Two Ways

Created On: May 9, 2012  |  Updated: May 9, 2012  |   3 Comments

Art Gallery Fabrics has an ongoing contest on their blog. Each month, they have a new fun challenge. I’ve done their hot-pack challenge with my lavender eye mask, I won their headband challenge with my no-sew headband, and last month I did the table runner challenge as well.

I started with a simple prototype to make sure that the project would work. I made this bag using the basic instructions for my reversible clutch. This is such a super-easy (and super-quick) way to make a bag! And, because I waited until the last minute to work on my entry, I needed something that was simple and quick!

The only difference was the size of the fabrics, and adding a strap. I used 11″x39″ pieces of fabric for the body of the bag. The flap is 11″, and the bottom is 14″ tall.

After making this prototype, I used it for a couple days to see what “add ons” I wanted. I added zippered pockets (including a zipper on the outside flap), open pockets, a divider inside the bag, and pockets for pens and lip gloss (those little things that fall to the bottom of the bag). I added all those in the final version (see the picture at the top). With all the post-baby doctors visits I’ve been going to, I love that this bag is big enough to carry a magazine easily!

I’m proud of myself for getting this project done… even though it didn’t win. But, there were some AWESOME entries this month, so winning really would have been a long shot. The March Challenge is to make a wine bag… I think I’ll get started much earlier this time!!

Always,

I love that purse. I have absolutely no talent like that so I just love that you say, “This is such a super-easy (and super-quick) way to make a bag!”. It will probably take me years to make this, and it will not be cute or straight lines. LOL
